Teachers act as facilitators or coaches, using interactive discussions and hands-on activities to help students learn and apply concepts in subjects.  As teachers move away from the traditional repetitive drill approaches and rote memorization, they are using more interactive methods to help students understand abstract concepts, solve problems, and develop critical thinking skills. 

You can become a part of an elite force of people who shape and mold tomorrow’s professionals, politicians, doctors and musicians.  You can be a good influence on a child and contribute to your community by educating its children.  Being a teacher is rewarding and highly valued.

This program is for seniors interested in careers in education or teaching.

Credit hours
You can earn up to three credit hours from University o f Central Missouri.

What you’ll learn.                  
You will be assigned to a school within your high school district boundaries.  Cadets keep daily logs, weekly journals, prepare and present a lesson(s) and work closely with students of the assigned supervising teacher.  You will be able to demonstrate good work habits, responsibility, punctuality and organizational skills.

Prerequisites                 
Minimum 2.5 GPA
95% attendance
Reading and writing at the 10th grade level
Algebra I or equivalent with C or better
(Child Development: Pre-School & Parenting, Child & Adolescent Psychology or equivalent recommended)

You must provide your own transportation to your work site.
