By the year 2020, there will be an estimated shortage of 800,000 nurses.  With the world population living longer and needing more care, the healthcare field is one of the best places to begin your career, and will likely stay that way for many years to come.  With over 100,000 vacant positions the career outlook is excellent for the nursing field.

Nursing is a highly regarded profession, and you can become a part of it.

This one-semester program is for juniors and seniors interested in learning more about allied health careers or who would like to enter a college healthcare degree program. 

Credit hours
You can earn up to 4 credit hours in courses that are prerequisites to entry into many MCC-Penn Valley  healthcare programs at the new Health Science Institute.

What you’ll learn.                  
This program will prepare you for a career in nursing with hands-on skills lab work, projects and guest speakers focusing on the exploration of several Allied Health careers:

                 
During this program, you will complete Medical Terminology (BIOL 150) for 2 college credits, Introduction to Allied Health for 2 college credits and be able to go on a six-hour job shadow in allied health career area of your choice

Prerequisites                 
Minimum 2.5 GPA
90% attendance
Reading, writing, and math at the 11th grade level
Algebra I with C or better
Biology and Chemistry with C or better

Other Requirements                 
You will have to provide transportation one day a week to Summit Technology Academy on lab days.
Class starts at 7:15 a.m. Transportation will be provided from Summit Tech to MCC-Penn Valley Health Science Institute on lab days.
